It’s Cinco de Mayo, and Mariachi NU celebrated with their seventh Annual Spring Showcase. Planning for the show began in late December when the group started looking for potential venues and creating a setlist. Featuring music by the iconic Mexican singer-songwriters Juan Gabriel and Vicente “Chente” Fernández, the songs highlight the talents of the group’s 14 members. The show also featured guest performers Ballet Folklórico NU and Curie High School’s Mariachi Juvenil.

Mariela Perez, Mariachi NU’s business chair, said the group’s goal is to celebrate the traditions of Mexico through mariachi music.

“We hope that when people come to our show, whether they are first-timers or our family and friends, that they can appreciate the music and learn a little bit more about mariachi culture and its relevance in Mexico,” Perez said.
